DSDN 144 Analisis

Theaters by Hiroshi Sugimoto.

For these pictures, Sugimoto enters a cinema and sets up his camera before the movie starts screening. He uses very long exposure and black and white film to create these pictures. The shutter is opened at the start of the movie and closed at the end of the credits resulting in a picture depicting a completely white screen and a theater bathed in light from the projector and the screen.
One could see these bright white screens illuminating dark rooms as a metaphor for art and culture illuminating every-day monotony. An other possible point of view is that these white blank screens are a critique of modern day cinema.

<p> In this day and age it is important to be able to communicate ones ideas efficiently and meaningfully. It is the job of a media designer to do so, and as a media designer, I take great pride and pleasure in satisfying these demands.</p>

<p> As a media design student I spent 3 years studying at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, and 4 more years studying game art in France. I also have 9 years of overseas experience in very different places around  the pacific and south-east Asia, moreover I am fluent in three different languages, namely English, French and Japanese. I believe that this multicultural experience gives me the edge and allows me to bring a wide verity of skills  and influences to my work.</p>

The idea for this web page was to have the viewer play an active part to the reading of the text, for the text to be revealed, the viewer has to hover over each word with the mouse cursor. This is meant to emulate a child reading a book while folowimg the text with his finger.
The black background was deliberately chosen to once again give life the idea of a child reading a ghost story under his bed sheets.

DSDN142 Lab1: procedural sketches

This first sketch replicates the final drawings obtained by Vera Molnar using her procedural method of drawing (http://www.atariarchives.org/artist/sec11.php)
This drawing was made by following the instructions given by Sol Lewitt (http://www.moma.org/learn/moma_learning/themes/conceptual-art/sol-lewitt-and-instruction-based-art), the filling for each square was determined randomly from the four choices given.
This drawing was done using the instructions and examples given by Edward Zajec (http://www.atariarchives.org/artist/sec16.php).
